The Bronx is in The House, but Symmetry is everywhere.
Their latest CD "Music on WVKR-FM" was #1 on the top 20 playlist for November 2013 and one of the top 25 albums of that year. Their previous CD "WMD" was listed at #2 on WVKR'-FM's top 20 playlist in August 2012 and also as one of the top 25 albums of that year. It's a mixture of pulsating, electronic beats and hypnotic, ambient soundscapes. The original Symmetry band was established in June of 1978 by students from the graduating class behind the motion picture "Fame". Growing up in the birthplace of Hip Hop and at times shaking hands with Hip Hop royalty, Jose Murcia and John Rivera shared a passion for electronic music. Through the use of home-made, electronic sound-generating gadgets, tape recorders and consumer electronic keyboards (synthesizers were too expensive in the 70's), they forged their own brand of ambient, experimental Pop Rock. The name and the music were inspired by the electronic music of Synergy (Larry Fast) as well as studies in geometry and surrealist art. In 1982, Symmetry was joined by a third member from LaGuardia High School. Richard Lee Sisco (a.k.a. Sisco Kid) created the story boards for and also appeared in the films "Beat Street" and "Krush Groove". His experience as a DJ, songwriter and saxophone player had a definitive impact on the band. Also, his charismatic stage presence and creative energy brought Symmetry out of the studio and into the public spotlight. He performed and recorded with Symmetry from 1982 to 2009.
Shortly thereafter, he lost his battle with cancer and passed away in December of 2010. His last performance with Symmetry is posted on Vimeo on the JEM of Symmetry channel. Over the years, the music of Symmetry has evolved into a uniquely diversified style laced with elements of rock, jazz, hip-hop, new age, experimental and world music. The band believes that symmetry is a reflection of divine perfection on Earth and across the universe. Therefore, their mission is to explore music and sound through electronics in an on-going effort to attain spiritual and sonic perfection and share it with the world.
